Powerex is a joint venture of General Electric und Mitsubishi. The factory in located in Youngwood (PA) continues also the production of Westinghouse diode and thyristor types.
How to order: Powerex distinguishes between POW-R-BLOK
and POW-R-BRIK modules.
These type descriptions where established, when isolated base plates
where introduced to the market (meanwhile standard).
POW-R-BRIK is the name of the biggest available module, with Compression
Bonded Encapsulation (CBE) and internal
double sided cooling of the silicon wafer. Please

Powerex
manufactures customized modules in own clean rooms. The housings are covered
either by own developed types or by the whole spectrum of Mitsubishi power
electronics. The chips inside Powerex may buy at all manufacturers they want,
Powerex is not being tied to their contract partner Mitsubishi. Available
contact techniques: soldering, bonding and press fit (CBE). Custom specified
modules may be used for the following requirements:
- enhanced temperature range ( -55 bis 200 °C)
- better moisture level / hermetic module housings
- special internal wiring & connections
- higher isolation
- lower weight (aviation), adopting the module dimensions to limited space
- directly integrating the heatsink to the module (eliminating the base plate)
- implementing more powerful chips, i.e. a bigger free wheeling diode
- placing temperature- or current sensors directly at the chip
Powerex manufactures also for the US army and will apply highest military specifications when needed. The only limit for the developers is their budget: Setting up an own custom module causes high set up costs and development power. Therefore Powerex invites you to benefit from already existing designs. The following custom modules can be bought by everyone:

Powerex offers the boards shown above directly in sets with the corresponding
drivers and DC/DC converter ICs shown in the right column. To Europe Powerex
exports only the naked printed circuit boards (PCBs). The desired drivers
and converters of Isahaya have to be ordered separately. And your board has
to be populated also with the passive elements of the parts list by your own.
